The most famous dive site is the Great Blue Hole of Lighthouse Reef Atoll. 1000 feet in diameter and 412 feet deep, complete with stalactites, caverns and caves like never seen before. Many dive resorts are located along the coast as far south as Placensia, along Ambergris Caye where the town of San Pedro in located, on Turneffe Islands, Lighthouse Reef and Glover's Reef.

Getting There:

Belize City has very good air service with regular flights on American Airlines, Continental, and US Airways from several US gateways. You can reach Belize in one day from most US cities.

Getting Around:

Travel within the country is easily handled through commuter airlines such as Maya Air and Tropic Air. Transfers to the atolls are handled by boat or air. Getting around in Ambergris Caye is easily done by foot or rent a golf cart for the day or week!

Language and Culture:

English is the official language of Belize. As a former British Colony, Belize offers a cultural mix of European, local Mayan and other indigenous cultures as well as African and Asian influences. Belize’s rich cultural diversity is one of the special features Belize has to offer.

Airport and Taxes:

There are several direct flights from the US. The Atolls typically require transfers on Wednesdays or Saturdays. Belizean departure taxes have been approximately $25.00

Entry Requirements:

Canadian citizens and US citizens need a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity.

Locations and Climate:

Belize has a sub tropical climate with temperatures varying slightly throughout the country. There are prevailing winds that make the high air temperatures comfortable. Summer highs may reach 95 degrees while winter lows rarely drop below 60. Rainfall ranges from 50-120 inches.

Currency/Credit Cards:

The Belizean dollar is fixed to the US dollar at 2:1US with the US Dollar. Us currency and all major credit cards are widely accepted.
