Getting There:

Airlines that fly to Cozumel include, Continental, US Airways, Northwest, and American. There is also Aerocaribe from Cancun. There are good connections from Houston, Dallas and Charlotte.

Getting Around:

Special airport vans will take you to your hotel(obtain ticket after customs office) Taxis are plentiful and reasonable. Rental cars are readily available. We generally do not recommend scooters in Cozumel due to the traffic.

Location:

Cozumel is located 550 miles southwest of Miami. It is 12 miles off the Yuctan peninsula and is a little south of Cancun/Isle Mujeres. Cozumel is Mexico’s largest island measure 33 miles long by 9 miles wide. It is a flat island, which is largely unpopulated.

Language and Culture:

Spanish is the official language, but English is widely spoken. Cozumel has a strong Mayan influence unlike central and northern Mexico.

Airport and Taxes:

The international airport if only 2 miles from downtown. Departure tax is currently included in the cost of most tickets.

Entry Requirements:

Canadian and US citizens need a return ticket and a passport or birth certificate or affidavit of birth. Passport is always recommended. Please call for very specific requirements in children travel without both biological parents.

Climate:

Air temperature varies from 90degrees to 70 degrees. Annual rainfall is about 40”. Water temperature ranges from 78-85 degrees.

Time:

Cozumel is on central time.

Currency/Credit Cards:

The peso is the official currency and fluctuates in the value often. U.S. Dollars are widely accepted, as are credit cards and traveler’s checks. Many stores will add a surcharge when using credit cards. ATM’s are available!

Electricity:

110 Volts A.C.

Tips:

Visit the Yucatan on your last non-diving day. Take the ferry to Playa and rent a jeep, go south and visit the Mayan ruins of Tulum!!! On your way, go off the main road and visit some of the Centoes along the way. Be sure to take your snorkel gear to snorkel and swim around these sites.
