When people think
of Puerto Rico, they usually think of Old San Juan and cruising.
Old San Juan and a cruise departure from San Juan are pretty
wonderful. In addition, though, is the diving found off
the south-west portion of the island near Ponce. This part
of the Island is a two hour drive through some of the prettiest
terrain in the Caribbean. Once you arrive, you have the
opportunity to dive Parguera Wall and the diverse reefs
surrounding this relatively unexplored area for divers.
Good air service is available to San Juan from most every
major departure city in the States.

There:
American, US air, United, Continental and Delta
Getting
Around:
Ground transportation in Puerto Rico can mean a taxi,
a tour bus, a rental car, a ferry, a small plane,
a charter boat, a Metrobus, or a público. In
the near future, you will also be able to get around
part of greater San Juan in a shiny new Urban Train.
Location:
Just east of the Dominican Republic and west of the
Virgin Islands
Language
and Culture:
Both Spanish and English are the official languages
Airport
and Taxes:
The main airport is San Juan, and there are no Departure
taxes.
Entry
Requirements:
No visas or passports are required to enter Puerto
Rico from the United States
Climate:
The climate is as close to perfect as it can get,
averaging 83°F (22.7°C) in the winter and
85°F (29.4°C) in the summer. In other words,
it’s always summer! The trade winds cool the coastal
towns and the temperature decreases as you go up into
the higher mountains.
Time:
Puerto Rico is in the Atlantic Time Zone, but does
not observe Daylight Savings Time
Currency/Credit
Cards:
The local currency is the U.S. dollar. Major credit
cards are accepted at most businesses, and ATMs connected
to major US and international networks are easy to
find.
Electricity:
The island uses standard U.S. electric current. European
appliances require an adapter.
